In April 2020, a group of concerned community members recognized that many undocumented immigrants in Washington, DC could not avail themselves of services for food. Therefore, the Close the Gap program was developed in response to this gap. This food insecurity program focuses on undocumented immigrant families experiencing food insecurity in Washington, DC.

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, we fed 40 families per month by providing a $100 Giant Gift Card. We also provided PPE equipment (masks, gloves and hand sanitizers) as well as a turkey for Thanksgiving. This program is in partnership with many of the Greater Washington Hispanic Construction Companies and other non-profit organizations and local churches. Our goal for 2022 and beyond is to increase the number of families in the program to 100 families per month through December 31, 2022 and in future years.
